The Select Board this week proclaimed Saturday, May 23, “Maddie’s Promise Day” in recognition of Maddie’s Promise, a non-profit organization started in memory of Hingham resident Maddie McCoy, who passed on in May 2019 at the age of 11 from a rare pediatric cancer.
The proclamation honors Maddie for her “courage, gentle spirit, and generosity in bringing a smile to everyone she met. . . . Maddie has been an inspiration to all who met her and hear about her courageous battle . . .”
As an example, Maddie created art to sell to raise money for pediatric cancer research while receiving treatment at Boston Children’s Hospital.
The proclamation urges all Hingham citizens to observe “Maddie’s Promise Day” by emulating “the spirit and attitude of Maddie McCoy and being the change the world needs.”
