Planning Board Looking For Participants in Residential Compatibility Standards Subcommittee

The Hingham planning Board is seeking residents to take part in the newly formed Residential Compatibility Standards Subcommittee.

The Subcommittee is being formed to help ensure Hingham’s growth and development maintains and enhances the character, scale and integrity of the town’s neighborhoods.

Along with resident participants, the Subcommittee will consist of members of the Planning, Select, and Zoning Boards, and the Historic Districts Commission.

The Subcommittee welcomes diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and neighborhood identity, and encourages residents who are passionate about engaging and having a voice in the future character of Hingham’s neighborhoods to apply.

  1. This is insane. The town won’t allow any new housing on undeveloped land. So the only possibility for new construction is to tear down an existing house. Now they want to limit the scale of what people are allowed to build. This makes no sense.

    The town has chosen to restrict development to create exclusivity and drive up prices. So it seems disingenuous to then block the people who can afford to move here from building the large houses they want.

    The key to affordable housing is to increase supply.
