Marjorie Ann Murphy

Marjorie Ann Murphy, 96, of Hingham, MA, died on August 6, 2023, after a period of declining health.

Marjorie was born in Boston, MA to Walter James Murphy and Mary P. (Leonard) Murphy. She resided in Milton, MA for many years and attended Milton public schools.

After graduation from high school, Marjorie attended the Massachusetts School of Art (now known as the Massachusetts College of Art and Design) where she honed her extraordinary artistic talents. After graduation, she became an accomplished commercial artist, and until her retirement, she worked for many years as a fashion illustrator for Boston area clothing stores, including Appleseed’s, Filene’s, Remick’s, and Jordan Marsh. She took great pleasure in teaching art to others, all of whom benefited from her expertise.

Marjorie loved to travel throughout the world and to paint watercolors of the scenes she encountered. She brought great joy to others with her art, her wonderful sense of humor, and her quick wit (with a touch of sarcasm). Even in the most challenging times, she had the ability to make others laugh. She will be deeply missed by her family and her many friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters, Jean Crowley Watson and (Claire) Patricia DaCosta, and her nephew, Paul DaCosta. She is survived by her brother, Walter L. Murphy, her nieces, Jill Bryden, Patricia DaCosta, Dana DaCosta, Susan DaCosta, Diane Quinlan, Kerri Tellier, Erin Hoye, and Kate Murphy, her nephews, Stephen DaCosta, David DaCosta, and James Murphy, and many grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.

 Services: A memorial celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on August 29, 2023, at Linden Ponds Senior Living Community, 300 Linden Ponds Way, Hingham, MA 02043. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Marjorie’s name to a charity close to her heart, Rosie’s Place, 889 Harrison Avenue, Boston, MA 02118 (www.rosiesplace.org).
