Hello Readers! Today, April 9, communities and newsrooms across the country are celebrating the first-ever Local News Day, a national moment to recognize the trusted, community-based journalism that keeps us informed, connected, and engaged.

At the Anchor, we’re proud to be part of this movement and even prouder to be among the early adopters of hyper-local digital news. Since launching in 2018, we have spent the past eight years building something meaningful together, a true community resource shaped by and for Hingham. For that, we want to say THANK YOU!
At a time when national headlines and politics dominate our feeds, it is easy to overlook what is happening right outside our doors. But the most important stories are often right here at home. These are the decisions impacting our schools, the small businesses opening in our Historic Downtown, community events bringing neighbors together, and the local policies and decisions shaping the future of our town.
That is the work we do every day at The Hingham Anchor, covering our community with heart, and humanity at the center. Because we know that when we stay informed locally, we stay connected.
Local news is our common ground. It reflects what is happening here and what it means for the people we know and care about. We will not always agree, and that is okay. When we share facts, perspectives, and stories rooted in our community, we create space to engage, understand, and move forward without disconnecting from one another.
As John Adams once said, “Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge among the people.” That idea is as relevant today as it was at our nation’s founding 250 years ago. Adams understood that democracy depends on people knowing what is happening around them, especially in their own communities.
Our local news plays a vital role in making that knowledge accessible to all today (free of charge thanks to our amazing business partners and donors).
We are more than headlines. We are a platform for perspective, participation, and connection.
If you believe local news matters, we invite you to support our mission through a donation. You can make a tax-deductible donation to the Anchor Community Media Fund here. If giving is not possible, there are still many ways you can help. Read a story, share it with a neighbor, subscribe to our newsletter, or follow along on social media.
Every action helps make us stronger, together.
From the bottom of my heart – THANK YOU for helping to make the Anchor what it is today.
XO,
Hilary
