December 8, 2023 Submitted by The Keohane Funeral Home

J. Philip Murphy of Hingham, died November 30, 2023 at the age of 85.

Phil was raised by Helen and Danny Murphy in Braintree.

He was a graduate of Archbishop Williams High School. After graduating, he served in the U.S. Air Force. Shortly, thereafter, while renting a place in Falmouth, he met the love of his life, Mary Jane Lyons. They were married for 55 years and he told her every day how beautiful she was. They loved traveling to their beloved Island of Bermuda annually, where they golfed, zipped around on their mopeds and enjoyed their super nachos and planter’s punch on the harbor.

Phil was a respected real estate broker for 53 years, finally giving up his license last May. Over the years, he worked for the Chase Group, DeWolfe New England, and Coldwell Banker. He was a proud member of the 50/80 Club with some of his close friends. Membership was limited to those over the age of 80 who were successful real estate agents for over 50 years.

Phil was a wonderful father and worked so hard to provide for his family. He was so proud of his two kids, Sarah and Phil. They have the nicest memories of wonderful vacations and fabulous family holidays that included eating, drinking, and dancing. The love of his life were his three grandkids. He was always interested in their lives, hosting fun sleep overs, Saturday breakfasts at Stars, watching Red Zone on Sundays, and enjoying all their activities. He especially enjoyed hearing about his grandson’s golf games and attending his granddaughter’s plays.

He will be remembered as a sharp dressed, mild mannered, gentleman.

Beloved husband of Mary Jane (Lyons) Murphy. Loving father of Phil Murphy and Sarah A. Keohane and her husband Dennis, all of Hingham. Proud “Papa” of Will, Neil, and Colleen Keohane, all of Hingham. Loving brother of Paul Murphy of The Villages, FL, Judy O’Malley of Bourne, the late John Murphy, and the late Helen Ann Maichle. Also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday from 4:30-6:30 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. Funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 AM in the Funeral Home, Hingham. Burial with military honors will be held at the MA National Cemetery, Bourne at 12:45 PM.

Donations in Phil’s memory may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Center at South Shore Hospital via his son-in-law’s Boston Marathon Fundraiser.
