The MIAA playoffs are well into their second week and the girls and boys tennis teams and the girls and boys lacrosse teams are still alive. Here’s a quick recap of the first two weeks of action so far.
Girls Lacrosse – 3rd Seed D2

The girls secured their spot in the Final Four yesterday afternoon with a 16-7 win over 6th seeded Bedford at home. Senior Ryan Hallisey and junior Kylie McAloon each recorded four goals and sophomore Vivien Nicholas had a hat trick. The girls are rolling through the playoffs so far with wins over Melrose (19) 13-6 and Northampton (30) 16-0. A big test awaits the Harborwomen in the semi finals as they face second seed and undefeated Reading Memorial on Monday at the neutral site of Burlington High School. Time TBD. They last reached the Final Four in 2024 with a win over Longmeadow.
Boys Lacrosse – 7th Seed D2

The Harbormen found themselves behind most of the first half in yesterday’s Round of 16 game vs 10th seeded Westwood. The visitors jumped out to an early 3-1 lead and every time Hingham cut it their lead to one, Westwood answered with a goal of their own. The second half was a completely different story. The Harbormen, specifically junior Tom McCarthy, came out firing in the second half and rattled off three straight goals giving the home team a 7-6 lead. The boys extended their lead in the 4th quarter to 12-8 with McCarthy’s fourth goal of the day. Westwood didn’t back down scoring four straight to tie the game with minutes left. But McCarthy was not done, caught a pass crossing in front of the goaltender and shot it behind his back and scored the game winner for the Harbormen advancing them to the Round of 8. They will travel to Longmeadow on Saturday to face the second seed at 1pm. Yesterday’s win came off their opening round 10-3 win over Barnstable (26).
Girls Tennis – 4th Seed D2

The Harborwomen are looking to get back to the Final Four for the third straight year this afternoon at home against 5th seeded Milton. The girls are coming off a 4-1 win over Wayland (16) in the Round of 16 and a 5-0 win over Somerville (29) in the opening round. Coach Berger is sticking with an all senior lineup this post season with senior captain Sam Ruddick, senior Hannah Mello, and senior captain Katie Whitlock playing singles. Senior captains Sammy Price and Gabi Magner are first doubles, while seniors Emma Kelley and Caitlin Patten are second doubles. The girls are 18-3 on the season and are tied with Duxbury for the most wins in Division 2 this season. Today’s match starts at 4pm.
Boys Tennis – 8th Seed D2

The boys are coming off a close match vs Reading Memorial (9) in the Round of 16 on Monday. Senior captains Ethan Warhaftig and Dylan Vale were victorious in their single matches. Senior TJ Meade and junior Jack Webb won first doubles. This was a bit tougher match than their 5-0 opening round match against Somerset-Berkeley (29) last week. Waiting for them now is top seed Westborough. This will be a rematch of last year’s Round of 8 contest where Westborough edged out a 3-2 over the Harbormen. The boys are looking for a little revenge and a spot in the Final Four. They will travel west tomorrow for a 4:00pm start time.
Playoff Recap
Baseball lost their opening round to Nashoba Valley on Monday 3-0. The boys earned themselves a 9th seed this year with a 12-8 record. Good things to look forward to next season with many starters returning.
Softball had to make the 3 hour bus ride out west to face Minnechaug on Saturday for their play-in game and lost 8-3. A great season for the girls and also a lot of promise next season.
Rugby finished the season undefeated at 6-0 and earned themselves a 5th seed. But they lost to 4th seeded Brookline 31-10. The second season with the Norwell cooperative worked out well and looks to be successful going forward.
Girls golf came in third in the South Sectionals, which qualified them for the State Tournament. They finished 6th in the State and junior Callie Crean placed 4th overall in the State. Congrats girls.
