Burtons Grill & Bar has been a Hingham staple for years. And this March marks the 20th anniversary of the restaurant group, whose birthplace and landmark location proudly stands where it is today at the Derby Street Shops in Hingham.
“Our Hingham location was our first restaurant and remains our flagship location in so many ways. The team exemplifies our commitment to food quality, hospitality, and community. We are so proud of this milestone and incredibly grateful for the loyalty of our guests,” remarks Denise Baron Herrera, Co-founding Chef and Chief Culinary Officer of Burtons Grill & Bar who has been with the restaurant since inception.
In honor of the anniversary month, from March 1-31, 2025, Burtons Grill & Bar will be featuring five favorite dishes from the original Hingham menu, including crab-stuffed mushrooms, a wedge salad, and butterscotch pudding. The restaurant will also be highlighting a special Feature Menu on the actual anniversary of its opening on March 29, 2025 with three signature dishes priced at $20 each. The menu will also be gluten-free friendly.
Burtons was founded by Kevin Harron after struggling to find restaurant options that could accommodate celiac disease. From day one, the founders anchored on the customization of the dining experience for guests with food allergies and other dietary needs. This blossomed into developing gluten-free menu items, which then evolved into a full gluten-free menu which parallels their regular menu. Denise Baron Herrera notes that while the restaurant does have bread and pasta in their locations, all other ingredients are gluten-free. “Since we are a scratch kitchen, we control sourcing and therefore all other sourced ingredients are gluten-free. We have extensive protocols in place to prevent cross-contamination and to accommodate guests with allergies and other dietary restrictions.”
After Harron’s retirement a few years ago, John Haggai has assumed the role of CEO and continues to lead and expand the company. Burtons currently has 21 locations (nine in New England) with more on the way. The company prides itself on works with local purveyors, artists, and the community. “Community involvement has always been part of our DNA. Over the years, we’ve supported countless local non-profit groups, schools, and organizations. We also participate in local events like South Shore Arc and the Best of South Shore. We have partnered with Barrel House Z and Untold Brewing in the past. Fun fact: Our logo was originally designed by Marie Flaherty, who’s from Scituate. In May, in honor of Celiac Awareness month, we will be donating a portion of our gluten-free dessert sales May 1-31 to the Celiac Program at Boston Children’s Hospital,” shares Baron Herrera.
