Hingham Sports Partnership and Anonymous Family Team Up to Announce Community Challenge

HHS RENDERING

September 20, 2023 Submitted by Hingham Sports Partnerships

Hingham Sports Partnership (HSP) announced that it has received an anonymous $150,000 gift in support of The Campaign for The DOCK at Hingham High School (HHS). The gift is the largest to-date in support of building The DOCK, a new facility at HHS which will encompass wellness and exercise needs of students.

“This family’s magnanimous contribution is simply fabulous. It will propel us forward significantly towards our goal to build a space where all students feel at home as their exercise, fitness, and wellness needs are met,” commented HSP Board President Deb McCarthy. “The HSP Board was so moved by this level of generosity that we voted to make an additional $150,000 contribution to The DOCK project.” These wonderful gifts officially jump-start the next phase of the campaign. Through this combined $300,000 matching gifts fund, all new gifts to The DOCK will be matched one-to-one through a Community Match Challenge, thereby doubling the impact of generosity.

“We are calling on the Hingham community to step up, as they have so generously done in the past, to help make The DOCK a reality,” commented Campaign Co-Chair Kevin Quilty. “Our goal is to raise an additional $300,000 or more from residents to meet this challenge gift opportunity.”  Once complete, The DOCK will be a 2,500 square foot modern facility located at the HHS Athletic Complex. It is slated to replace the existing storage and maintenance facility adjacent to the track, in the rear parking lot. The wellness facility is being completely funded by philanthropy. The campaign’s present target is to raise the estimated $1.5 million budget. With the combined generosity of the anonymous donor and HSP’s latest commitment, the campaign has now raised more than $865,000.

“We’ve entered our most critical phase of fundraising: calling on our residents to help us by donating any amount possible in our final sprint to the finish line,” says McCarthy. “We believe in Hingham to support this important project for our students.”

In working with the Town, School Committee, and High School leadership, HSP hopes to have The DOCK project completed and ready for student use by December 2024.

“It truly takes a village to build The DOCK. We’re immensely grateful for everyone’s generosity so far,” says HHS Principal Rick Swanson. “We’re proud of our efforts to expand electives, such as yoga and more at HHS. The DOCK would give us a better space to host these electives and help improve students’ wellness.”
