Hingham residents Kristi Holden, Dennis Keohane, and Brooke Valentine will be running the 2023 Boston Marathon® as part of Team South Shore Health. The runners will be fundraising to support cancer care services and programs at the Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center in clinical affiliation with South Shore Health.

“I am honored to be running 26.2 miles this year in loving memory of my step-father and dear friend,” said Holden. “I’m happy to raise money for this organization that is close to my heart, and has helped so many of my friends and family. I will be carrying them with me as I run my fourth Boston Marathon.”

“The care provided at the Cancer Center touches so many lives on the South Shore and guides people through their darkest days,” added Keohane. “When my wife, who is a nurse at South Shore Health, mentioned the opportunity to join this team, I jumped on it. This will be my first marathon and I am beyond excited.”

This year’s Boston Marathon will take place on Patriots Day, April 17, 2023. The course will consist of 30,000 participants.
“Many, if not all of us, know a family member or friend with cancer, and this is a cause that’s very close to my heart,” explained Valentine. “Knowing that the patients I am fundraising for are facing great challenges will push me to cross the finish line in Boston.”

South Shore Health is proud to be an official Partner of John Hancock in the Marathon Non-Profit Program. Thanks to its ongoing partnership with John Hancock, this is the 12th year South Shore Health has been awarded a limited number of bibs to field a Boston Marathon team.

Team South Shore Health runners can choose to earmark their fundraising in support of one of the following programs/services:
• Supporting the implementation of behavioral health and substance use disorder services and initiatives within the Grayken Center for Treatment at South Shore Health.
• Cancer care at the Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center in clinical affiliation with South Shore Health.

“Each donation that our team of runners receives will have a huge impact on our local community,” said Jenn Croes, Executive Director of the Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center in clinical affiliation with South Shore Health. “It allows us to participate in clinical trials for the patients and provides them with access to a level of cancer care that is unavailable elsewhere in our region.

And, it allows us to offer cancer education and support programs for patients and families.”
