HINGHAM LIBRARY UPCOMING EVENTS – FEBRUARY 28, 2019

Coming up: Board games, Story Slam, and Family Story-time

UPCOMING EVENTS

Explore Board Games — On Saturday, March 2, from 1 to 3 p.m., join other enthusiasts for an afternoon of tabletop gaming fun hosted by Battleground Games & Hobbies. Battleground’s staff will be on hand to teach participants the ropes, and there will be a wide selection of games from which to choose. Each game involves a high degree of strategy but is quick and easy to learn.

Evening with the Author— On Wednesday, March 6, at 7 p.m., Andrew Forsthoefel — a talented writer, radio producer, and public speaker — will present his book, “Walking to Listen: 4,000 Miles Across America, One Story at a Time.”  Though facing the full range of elements from Appalachian winter to Mojave summer, Forsthoefel’s post-college 11-month transcontinental listening walk — a quest for meaning — was the greatest privilege and blessing of his life. Thousands shared their stories with him.  His book tells the tale of this remarkable journey and the power of listening. No registration necessary. Copies of “Walking to LIsten” will be available for purchase and signing.

Afternoon with the Author — On Saturday, March 9, at 2 p.m., local bestselling author and 23-time Boston Marathoner Paul Clerici will talk about his popular book, “Boston Marathon History by the Mile,” describing the colorful 26.2 mile journey mile by mile, town by town, story by story. His book brings the race to life with informative, humorous, and enlightening details. Copies will be available for purchase and signing by the author.

Story Slam — On Sunday, March 10, at 2 p.m., members of the community are invited to participate in the library’s Fourth Annual Story Slam for adults, featuring an “Oops” theme. Come ready to tell a five-minute memorized story on-stage — as serious or as silly as the storytellers like, but each must be a real story that meets the time limit and incorporates the theme. Those who wish to simply listen are also welcome as part of the audience and will vote for the best story. No registration required.

ESPECIALLY FOR FAMILIES

Saturday Family Storytime — The next event on March 9 for children and their caregivers will feature book readings, songs, and rhymes, followed by a playtime with the library’s toy collection. Be sure to stop by!
