February 20, 2024 By The Hingham Historical Society

The Hingham Historical Society recently celebrated the publication of the book Revolutionary Patriots of Hingham with local authors Ellen Stine Miller and Susan Garrett Wetzel.

Miller and Wetzel spent over five years researching and refining a directory of the over 800 men who served in America’s war for independence from 1775 – 1783. Guests of the Author event filled the third floor Gillis Reading Room of the Hingham Heritage Museum (as well as Zoom) to learn about the authors’ inspiration for the book, their research, and the over 70 extant homes that these Patriots either lived in or built, as well as how the public can honor these individuals’ services and their families’ sacrifices as our community approaches America’s semiquincentennial. The Hingham Historical Society’s Executive Director, Deirdre Anderson moderated a fascinating Q&A with the authors and audience at the conclusion of the presentation. A lovely reception and book signing brought the evening to a close.
