Hingham Historical Society Honors Gordon Building Movers as Hingham History Makers

March 27, 2024 By The Hingham Historical Society

The Hingham Historical Society recently honored Jim Gordon and the entire Gordon Family of Gordon Building Movers as Hingham’s 2024 Hingham History Makers. Speaking to a sold out in person audience in the Gillis Reading Room at Hingham Heritage Museum, as well as on Zoom, Society Board Member Eileen McIntyre presented a fascinating history of the company and the unique contribution they have played in historic home preservation in Hingham and the south shore since 1895. The presentation was followed by a panel discussion with Jim and Jack Gordon and local community members Ben Wilcox and Paul Healey who have worked for the family in the past. State Representative Joan Meschino presented the Gordon’s with a commemorative citation for their dedication to saving historic structures. Guests gathered in the ballroom for light refreshments and conversations at the conclusion of the event. Many special stories of past projects and beloved employees over the years were shared throughout the afternoon.

Hingham History Maker events celebrate living history makers who call Hingham home. Gordon Building Movers is Hingham’s Oldest family-owned business. The entire Hingham History Maker presentation can be viewed on the Hingham Historical Society’s You Tube channel.
