Longtime Hingham High School track coach Andrew Wayne of Norwell is on leave after he was arrested on two assault and battery charges involving a student athlete.

He is charged with indecent assault and battery on a person over age 14 and assault and battery after the incident was reported to the high school athletic director by the student and her parents, according to published reports.

The student alleges that Wayne inappropriately touched her during a track practice workout on Jan. 27.

According to a school resource officer who received notice of the incident from the athletic director, the incident was recorded by the school’s surveillance system.

Wayne was arrested following an interview with a detective on the case.
