Hingham Harbor Day launches June 13 With Waterfront Activities, Family Fun, And Community Celebration

Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 13, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and join friends, neighbors, and local organizations for Hingham Harbor Day—a free waterfront celebration designed to bring the community together around one of Hingham’s greatest treasures: our harbor.

Hosted by the Hingham Maritime Center, Harbor Day celebrates everything that makes Hingham Harbor special—recreation, history, education, civic pride, and the people who help our waterfront thrive. It’s a day to explore, learn, connect, and enjoy the harbor together.

“Harbor Day is an opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate one of Hingham’s greatest shared resources,” said Liza MacKinnon, Board Secretary of the Hingham Maritime Center. “Whether you come to learn, explore, compete, volunteer, or simply enjoy a day by the water, there will be something for everyone.”

The event will feature activities and experiences for all ages, including:

  • Beach Sprints Rowing Races, an exciting new Olympic discipline debuting at the 2028 Summer Games
  • Sailing demonstrations and exhibits
  • Public paddleboarding opportunities
  • Little Mariners marine science and STEM activities
  • Free 30-minute Harbor Walking Tours presented by the Hingham Historical Society
  • Touch-A-Truck experiences featuring vehicles from the Hingham Fire Department, Police Department, Department of Public Works, and Harbormaster

Visitors will also have opportunities to learn more about community initiatives shaping Hingham’s future. Representatives from the Route 3A/Summer Street Project Committee will share updates on planned improvements along the harbor corridor, while members of Hingham’s America 250 celebration and Harbor Development Committee will provide information about upcoming community events, including the All-American Picnic & Dance Party on Hingham Harbor.

This year’s Harbor Day is especially meaningful as several important milestones are celebrated:

  • 55 years of the Hingham Maritime Center
  • 20 years of the Hingham High School Rowing Association
  • 45 years of Hingham High School Sailing
  • The nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary

Organizers envision Harbor Day continuing to grow as a true waterfront celebration—bringing together maritime recreation, local history, family activities, civic engagement, community organizations, and downtown businesses in celebration of Hingham Harbor.

Whether you’re cheering on rowers, exploring a fire truck, taking a harbor tour, trying paddleboarding for the first time, or simply enjoying a beautiful June morning by the water, Harbor Day offers something for everyone.

The Hingham Maritime Center welcomes additional participation from community organizations, businesses, and volunteers interested in helping create an engaging and memorable day for residents and visitors alike.  Please contact Liza MacKinnon at lmackinnon@hinghammaritime.org

Admission is free and all are welcome.
