“I can’t wait!” Bev Vernon said when asked about the upcoming summer season beginning on May 3 for Hingham Farmers Market. “The market is a wonderful place. The vendors are ready to see their customers. And we’re thrilled by the overwhelming community support for the market.”
Adding to the excitement are several new vendors. New this season’s vendor is Vitamin Sea Brewing. With the passage of a recent state law allowing breweries to sell at farmers markets, the Hingham Selectboard approved Vitamin Sea Brewing. Dino Funari, owner of the Weymouth-based brewery, is glad to be added to the HFM roster. “We couldn’t be happier with the change in legislature and are so excited to be part of the upcoming 2025 season. It’s a great way for us to educate people on our brand, and enjoy our special craft beer!”
Another new vendor is Captain Marden’s Seafoods who will bring lobster and prepared foods, complimenting our long standing vendor Jordan Brothers Seafood as the market adds to its seafood offering for market goers. Market goers looking for special products from Jordan Brothers, can always pre-order online and pick up their order at the market.
The market’s new President, Bev Vernon, a 27 year Hingham resident and former educator in the Hingham Public School system, has volunteered with the Hingham Farmers Market for over a decade, including founding the volunteer Friends group and leading the market’s nutrition assistance program or SNAP. She is excited to usher in the summer season: “At the heart of the Hingham Farmers Market is a vibrant community where neighbors can connect directly with the source of their food and goods from talented local vendors.” In the spirit of community building, Bev shared that three new board members have joined the HFM. Two Hingham residents, Kathleen Lawlor and Alyson Connors in addition to a new vendor representative, Mike Anderson of Farmhouse Baking. Remaining on the board and in a new position is local resident Kate Pope Smith who now serves as Vice President. To start the season without former President Mark Cullings has been difficult. Bev Vernon knows the market is a wonderful place to honor Mark’s effort to create a happy place with thriving businesses. All the vendors are excited to return for this 2025 summer season.
Finally, market goers will discover something new at the Station Street location this summer. Bev has worked successfully with the town to make it easier for the setup and take down of the market each Saturday. A shed is now on the island to store the equipment needed to operate the market. “The town is wonderful to accommodate this need,” shares Bev. “We had driven this equipment for years from a storage facility or had it in a trailer at someone’s home. Finally we have a home for the Hingham Farmers Market equipment.”
The Market runs from May 3 to November 22, at 95 Station Street, rain or shine. You will find friendly local vendors are ready for you. HFM is a 501c6. For up to date vendor information, sign up for the market newsletter at www.hinghamfarmersmarket.org
