For the third year in a row, members of the boys lacrosse team shaved their heads as part of the Saving by Shaving event.  Created by Hingham businessman and philanthropist Rob Hale, the event raises money for pediatric research and treatments at Boston Children’s Hospital.  The Granite Telecommunications CEO started the event 10 years ago and has generated over $2.5 million in donations.  This year, the Harbormen had 77 players participate and at $5,000 a buzzed head, added $385,000 to the cause.

“It has been very important to us over these past few years,” says senior captain Ben Rakauskas.  “It is a great way to come together as a community while supporting a great cause. We have lots of fun shaving each other’s heads and I think it is a large part of the team culture and our motto ‘We is greater than me.’ It is a team and community before self mentality that I think will serve us well this season. That’s also why we refer to ourselves as a ‘Wolfpack.’ I also wanted to say that we really appreciate the Hale family for the generous donations. We raised between a quarter and a half million dollars this year which will be huge for cancer research. I’m happy to be a part of it and I know the other guys on the team are as well.”
