Three HHS varsity boats were selected to compete in this past Sunday’s 55th annual Head of the Charles River Regatta (HOCR). This prestigious regatta is the world’s largest 2 day rowing event, with over 2000 entries, 700 clubs and 11,000 athletes from around the world. The 3 mile course is extremely challenging with numerous twists and turns to navigate at top speed.
The girls Varsity four boat - coxswain Kerry McAuley, Lindsay O’Neil, Adeline Van Buskirk, Emily Bryant, Claire Schnorr - crossed the finish line in an impressive 20 minutes 8 seconds placing them in the top half of their event for the first time in 6 years and qualifying them for an automatic bid next year. The boys Varsity eight boat - coxswain Tony Griffin, Conor Murphy, Mason Fairfield, Ryan Mulflur, Jack Connelly, Jack Whamond, Lucas d’Entremont, Brannick Hodgdon, James Dieterrich - completed the race in 16 minutes 25 seconds, improving the previous HHS time and placement in this category. Finally, the HOCR was only the second regatta in which the boys Varsity four boat rowed together. This young group did a respectable job navigating and completing the race! The boat included coxswain Joe Sullivan, Leo Williams, Jack Magner, Finn Perkins, Owen Murray.
Next Sunday, the fall season will wrap up with the MPSRA championships in Lowell. This event is limited to public schools only and gives our rowers the opportunity to compete against their peers. On November 2, head down to HHS and the take the Crew Challenge! Enjoy Erg racing, Mass MVMNT workouts, live band, food and more while helping the team raise money for boats, equipment and other capital costs. For details visit https://www.hinghamhighcrew.com.
