Gloria (Gildersleeve) Nicholson

Gloria (Glo) Lowrance Nicholson, 100, passed away January 17th at Rose Court Continuing Care at Linden Ponds in Hingham.

She was born on March 8th,1922 in West Roxbury, MA to Albert and Eva Gildersleeve but spent most of her adult life as a resident of Hingham, MA.  She is predeceased by her siblings Earl Gildersleeve, William Gildersleeve and Jane Gildersleeve Sheehan. She was self-taught which established a lifelong love of learning. Throughout her life she was an avid traveler who visited every continent and wrote for the Patriot Ledger about her travels. She loved sharing her albums about her trips with her family and had a love of taking photos.  She also loved trivia, Jeopardy, crossword puzzles and playing scrabble.

Glo was blessed by two wonderful husbands who both predeceased her.  John W Lowance in 1970 and John W Nicholson in 2004.  She is survived by her six children:  Deborah Lowrance of Braintree, John (and Jean) Nicholson of Plymouth, Jay (and Pauline) Lowrance of Natick, Thomas Nicholson of Whitman, Ron (and Sue) Lowrance of Scituate and Ann Marie Nicholson of Plymouth.  She is also the beloved Grandma to her eleven grandchildren: Danielle (and Jeff) Silverberg, Kristopher Nicholson, Erin (and Glenn) Silverberg, Jake Nicholson, Jennifer (and John) Troy, Angela Sampson, Bryan (and Emily) Lowrance, Kate Nicholson, Christopher (and Mikaela) Lowrance, Greg Lowrance, Meghan (and Rob) Beary and ten great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Monday, January 23rd from 10-11am in the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond Street, Hingham MA.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 AM on the same day. Burial will be private.

  1. Hi Ron – so sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. She was a great mom. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of us hanging out and sleeping over your house or your mom cramming us all into her car and taking us to the beach. So strange that today you popped into my my and I Googled you and learned about your mom. Again my deepest sympathies to you and your family. Brian
