The first annual “Together on the Fourth” parade decorating contest is planned for Sunday, July 2 — an exciting addition to Hingham’s traditional Fourth of July celebration.
Children of all ages are invited to be part of this special event by bringing their decorated doll carriages, bicycles/tricycles, and wagons to the Stepping Stone Learning Center, 165 Beal St. Parking will be available at Talbots Headquarters, 175 Beal St.
Registration is as follows:
- Doll carriage, 8 to 8:30 a.m.
- Bicycle/tricycle, 9 to 9:30 a.m.
- Wagon, 10 to 10:30 a.m.
Children, who Charlotte Lynch of Stepping Stone calls “friends,” will register at a designated spot and be given a number. They will then parade around the lot, with three judges choosing the winners in each category that day.
The winning bikes, wagons, and doll carriages can be stored at Stepping Stone until the day of the parade if necessary.
“There is no age limit. However, the idea is to bring more children’s [activities] to such a wonderful major event in Hingham,” Lynch said. “There are so many new young families in town, and this is a wonderful way for them to get involved.”
Trophies will be awarded for first-, second-, and third-place winners in each procession. The winners’ doll carriages, bicycles/tricycles, and wagons will be placed on a float for spectators to view during the parade on July 4, and the winners are invited to walk behind the decorated float.
