Filmmakers Collaborative offering April vacation program in Hingham: ‘an opportunity for students to shine’

April 10, 2026 By Carol Britton Meyer

There’s still time for students ages 10 to 14 from Hingham and other South Shore communities to sign up for filmmaking classes presented by Filmmakers Collaborative – the creators of the Boston International Kids Film Festival – during April vacation.

As part of the “FC Academy,” participants will write, shoot, and edit a film in a genre of their choosing. The equipment, instructors, and curriculum are provided by the Collaborative – a non-profit that works with independent filmmakers.

This program is offered in partnership with the Norwell Recreation Department, with a Hingham home base.

The dates are Tuesday through Friday, April 21-24, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Harbor Media studio, 35 Pond Park Road, Hingham. The cost is $340.

This is an opportunity for students to learn the art of filmmaking – to bring creativity to life in a fun, collaborative, and exciting environment as they learn scriptwriting, storyboard sketching, improvisation, and camera skills.

“Kids are really creative and have great stories inside them, and we help them learn how to share them with the world,” Filmmakers Collaborative Executive Director Laura Azevedo told the Hingham Anchor.

All projects are eligible to be screened at the 14th Annual Boston International Kids Festival next November.

“This is the best part, because the young filmmakers will walk the red carpet, get their photos taken, and participate in questions and answers from the audience after watching their movies on the big screen!” Azevedo said.

The program builds confidence in the kids who participate by “giving them a platform to show their friends and families what they are really good at,” she said. “The kids are proud of their work, and their parents are happy to see them shine. The film festival is like their Super Bowl.”
