Ferd and Linda Lucas Honored with Bench

September 11, 2023 Submitted by Marco Boer, Harbor Development Committee Chair

In a small private ceremony on Harbor Celebration Day, Ferd and Linda Lucas of real estate firm Gallery 360 were honored for everything they have done to enable Hingham’s children and adults alike to enjoy one of our most precious assets in town, Hingham Harbor. Ferd and Linda have been donating water and parking from their office at 30 Summer Street to all of the participants that use a Barnes Wharf for well over two decades, benefiting Hingham Maritime, Hingham High school, Rowing, and Hingham high school sailing.

The most heavily used part of the harbor, Barnes wharf, does not have any water or sewer connections. The salt water causes significant corrosion issues on all of the sailing and rowing equipment that’s needed to get students onto the harbor. The ability to rinse a $50,000 rowing shell can extend its life by many years. Ferd and Linda have also freely given all rowing and sailing students access to park in the parking lot when they come for practice in the early mornings and late afternoons.  A back of the napkin calculation suggests that they have helped somewhere between 10,000 to 20,000 students over the last two decades.

To thank them, the Hingham Harbor Development Committee, Hingham Maritime, Hingham High School Rowing, Hingham High School Sailing and the Town of Hingham honored their generosity with a bench that will be located somewhere near 30 Summer St. in the very near future.

Both Linda and Ferd were deeply surprised, noting that: “Nobody has donated something in our honor, we are deeply touched.”
