My name is Kingsley Carolan and I am a senior at Deerfield Academy. My main interests are Studio Art and Art History, and I am also passionate about the history of Hingham having been raised in historic homes dating to the 1700s. This past spring, I applied for and was awarded a Center for Service and Global Citizenship grant from my school to fund an art competition for Hingham elementary school students to help form a connection with Hingham’s history.  With the help of my former South Elementary school art teacher, Mrs. Rollins, students drew, painted or sketched historical landmarks around town such as The Old Ordinary and The Old Ship Church. Winning submissions received a gift card, and their works were printed onto notecards that were donated to the Hingham Historical Society as a fundraiser. My hope is that these young artists learned about Hingham’s various historical assets while drawing them, gained confidence in their creative abilities, and are proud to have their works displayed to all who visit the Hingham Historic Society.
