The Centers for Disease Control recently determined that Plymouth County’s COVID-19 community presence is now “low” -- down from “medium” as reported by Town Administrator Tom Mayo to the Select Board on June 7.
"This decision to downgrade our community presence level is consistent with other data we’ve seen for Hingham, suggesting a decline in cases over the last few weeks," Mayo told the board Wednesday night.
When a community is at the "low" level, the CDC’s recommendations include staying up-to-date with COVID-19 vaccines and getting tested when exhibiting symptoms.
The Town of Hingham, through the Health Department, received 9,000 COVID-19 rapid antigen tests on Wednesday from the state Department of Public Health recently. These tests will be made available to residents and to the schools.
Mayo also reported that children ages six months to four-years-old who live in Massachusetts are now able to get the COVID-19 vaccine. "Both the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines are available," he said. "Parents and caregivers should consult with their primary care providers to learn more about the options or visit the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s 'COVID-19 vaccinations for children ages 6 months to 4 years old' page," he said.
Updates based on any changes in the COVID community presence level or "other compelling data" will be provided to Hingham residents as available, Mayo said.
