Bringing Disney Magic to Hingham

June 1, 2026 Submitted By Steve Bass / South Shore Conservatory

As a father of two young children, I’ve noticed  that the magic of Disney has already become an essential part of my household. My children know the stories, the characters, and the songs by heart, and like so many families, we’ve watched these movies over and over again, sung along together, and dressed up as our favorites. That joy has become such a significant part of our family life that I wanted to help create an opportunity for the whole community to experience that same magic together.

One of my principal goals, as South Shore Conservatory’s Artistic Director, is to create family concerts that feel welcoming, joyful, and meaningful for everyone. I want SSC to be a place where families can experience outstanding live performance without the cost, formality, or stress that can sometimes come with attending a concert. Our upcoming performance, When You Wish Upon a Star: A Disney Celebration, on Saturday, June 13 at 3 pm in our Carr Amphitheater, is exactly that kind of experience.

This concert is designed to capture the magic, nostalgia, and excitement of Disney music in a way that feels both professional and deeply accessible. Audiences can expect beloved songs from The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Frozen, and more, performed by two incredible New York City Broadway singers, Mickey White and Caitlin Zerra Rose. They will bring these songs to life along with a live pit orchestra featuring many of SSC’s talented faculty musicians.

One of the things I love most about family concerts is the energy in the audience. There is nothing quite like watching children hear music they already know and love performed live right in front of them. They sing along, they dance, they light up when they recognize a song, and often the adults accompanying them are just as excited. These concerts remind us that music can be excellent while still feeling cheerful, relaxed, and shared across generations.

That spirit is at the heart of our events, and the Carr Amphitheater provides the perfect setting. Families are welcome to sing along, move around on the lawn, bring a picnic, and enjoy the afternoon together. We want children to feel comfortable being children, and we want parents to feel relaxed knowing this concert was built with families in mind.

At SSC, we are deeply committed to offering high-quality professional entertainment with a low barrier to entry. For this concert, we have made tickets for children ages nine and under completely free, because we want as many young people as possible to experience the thrill of live music.

Please join us for this wonderful afternoon and a chance to spread out on the lawn, hear world-class performers, watch children sing and dance, and experience Disney magic in your own backyard.
