The Hingham Singers and the Wompatuck Senior Orchestra will pair up once again for a Concert at Hingham Congregational Church on SATURDAY EVENING, JANUARY 21. The 7:30 PM concert will open with Orchestral Favorites performed by the Wompatuck Senior Orchestra. Among the selections will be a medley from the musical, “Oliver!” and the first movement from Dvorak’s incredible Symphony #8. The orchestra practices at Hingham Congregational Church, the site of the concert. They would like to extend a hearty “Thank You” to pastor Rev. Dr. Peter Allen and the members of that church for their generosity in offering the rehearsal space. The orchestra rehearses on Tuesday mornings each week at the church. Anyone interested in joining the all-volunteer orchestra should speak with director Dr. Paul Kenwood Cappers at the conclusion of the January 21 performance.
The second half of the program will feature “Music of Ukraine” by The Hingham Singers, also conducted by Dr. Cappers. All selections will be from Ukraine to honor the courage of that nation. In addition to the close to $1000 raised to date toward the concert, major proceeds from ticket and advertising revenues will be given directly to Ukraine via the organization, Ukraine Forward. Tickets are $20.00 for general admission, with extra donations encouraged that will go 100% to Ukraine Forward.
Ihor Kowal, Music Director at Christ the King Ukrainian Catholic Church of Boston, has brought some of his singers to join with THS for the concert. Mr. Kowal has been invaluable in helping our American singers learn to pronounce the Ukrainian texts and understand the meaning behind the music. The selections are split about equally between English and Ukrainian lyrics, in the varied styles of folk and Slavic Sacred Music that are unique to Ukraine. Come enjoy a wonderful evening of music as you experience the joy of recognizing the amazing courage of this nation.
