The Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, which started out years ago as the Hingham Civic Orchestra, continues its season-long focus on the nine Ludwig von Beethoven symphonies this Saturday, Jan. 27. Leading the program: his Symphony No. 1.

The concert, led by Maestro Jin Kim, begins at 7:30 p.m. at Braintree’s Thayer Academy Center for the Arts, 745 Washington St. Kim introduced his so-called “Beethoven 1-9 Cycle” program—an extremely unusual one-season presentation of his nine masterworks—at the ASO’s season opener Oct. 21. https://www.hinghamanchor.com/atlantic-symphony-season-begins-oct-21-beethovens-5th-starts-cycle-of-all-9-masterwor/

Also on Saturday’s program: Johann Christian Bach’s La Calamita de Cuori overture, and a special appearance by the Braintree High School Orchestra and by the Thayer Chamber Orchestra, playing a special piece along with some ASO musicians.

Maestro Kim will introduce Beethoven’s 1st by discussing from the stage just how that initial symphonic work paved the way for the eight masterpieces that were to follow.

“Literally from the very first notes it shows how he will revolutionize symphonic works forever,” says Kim. The conductor adds that he is excited about entering into a “town hall conversation” from the stage, as well as giving the Braintree High and Thayer Academy students a chance to interact with the Atlantic’s professionals.

Audience members then will have a post-concert opportunity “to mingle and chat” with the conductor and his musicians, enjoying complimentary hors d’oeuvres, and hearing about the ASO’s plans “for this summer and next season.”

Tickets for Jan. 27, available through the ASO website, range from $15 to $50. The orchestra is offering special $5 tickets for Braintree and Thayer Academy students. https://atlanticsymphony.org/events-tickets/upcoming-events/mw-after-hours/

The full concert is sponsored by ecommercechris.com, and South Shore Bank is providing 50 tickets for friends and family of students that will be performing.
