Antoinette Theresa Corby

Antoinette Theresa Corby, 85, of Scituate, MA, passed away peacefully on September 10th, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Antoinette (La Rosa) was born in Boston on May 18th, 1938, to Giovanni La Rosa and Concetta La Rosa (Gelardi). Both parents immigrated from Sicily in the early 1900s. Antoinette was the sixth of seven children. Antoinette attended parochial school for her entire schooling and was proud to be a graduate of Archbishop Cushing High School in Boston.

Immediately following her graduation, she began working at Bank Boston, where she met her beloved and late husband, Frank J Corby, formally of Winchester, MA. They were married in April 1958, and shortly thereafter began their life together with their cherished six children. Antoinette was a lover of the arts, including literature and music. She was often asked to play Italian love songs to her family and friends and could be found playing her piano during quiet time. In addition, she enjoyed traveling with and visiting her children, including places such as Europe and Australia.

Antoinette is survived by her children Mary Anne Zoldak and her husband Jim, of Plymouth, MA; Francis Corby of Blackheath, Australia; Antoinette (Nina) Gustafson of Brockton, MA, who predeceased her in March of 2022; Richard Corby and his wife Dawn of Halifax, MA; Paula Quirk of Brockton, MA; Michelle Lawler and her husband Sean, of Scituate, MA.

Antoinette was the proud grandmother to Eve Gilley, Victoria Shanahan, Zach Barnes Corby, Erik Gustafson, Emily Gustafson, Maya Wills, Maeve Lawler, William Corby, Brooke Corby, and Sean Francis Lawler, as well as her four great-grandchildren Ryan Shanahan, Ava Claflin, Amelia Claflin, and Lyla Gilley.

Antoinette had a quiet strength and a welcoming, unassuming spirit. She touched the lives of everyone she met. She listened without judgment and opened her heart and home to the many friends her children and grandchildren brought to her table.

She is fondly known by her family and friends as “Pi,” a very fitting nickname given to her by her eldest granddaughter.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours from 10:30am-11:30am on Tuesday September 19, 2023, at St. Pauls Church 147 North Street Hingham, MA 02043. Followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30am. A graveside service will take place Wednesday September 20, 2023, at 11:00am at Calvary Cemetery 686 Washington Street, Winchester, MA 01890.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages gift donations to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Antoinette Theresa Corby to support cancer research and patient care at: Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284 (www.dana-farber.org/gift) and/or to the Norwell VNA and (Pat Roche) Hospice Charitable Fund at 120 Longwater Dr., Norwell, MA 02061 (www.nvna.org).
