Absentee and Early Voting Ballots Available by Mail

ELECTION 2020-3
April 27, 2020 by Eileen McCracken (as posted on the Town of Hingham Website)
Editor note: Here is information on how to vote either by absentee or early voting ballot for the June 27th Hingham Town Election.  Every vote counts!

The information below applies to elections held through the end of June.  Determine which ballot you qualify for and complete the application to receive a ballot by mail.

Absentee Ballot

Under existing state law, a voter only qualifies to vote absentee if they will be absent from the city or town during the voting hours, a religious belief prevents them from going the polling place or a physical disability prevents them from going to the polling place.  The new law specifies that any person taking a precaution related to COVID-19 qualifies for an absentee ballot by reason of physical disability. This would include those who are sick, self-quarantined, or simply choosing not to go to a public place for their own safety or for a family member’s safety.

Early Voting Ballot

Unlike absentee voting, early voting is for every registered voter. Registered voters do not need an excuse or reason to vote early.  Early voters will receive an absentee ballot in an Early Voting envelope allowing us to identify the action.

There is no early voting in person for any municipal or special state elections.

Application for Early Voting Ballot

Applications for both Absentee and Early Voting are available for download.  You may also request a ballot in writing or by email to the Town Clerk.  In all cases the request is not valid without a signature.  Completed applications can be emailed to TownClerk@hingham-ma.gov, mailed to the Town Clerk, 210 Central Street, Hingham MA, 02043, or dropped off in the drop box in the front circular driveway at Town Hall.

Thank you and be Safe.
