Congratulations, Hingham! In the course of celebrating America’s 250th birthday, you helped set three records for the 50 Flags Program.

With the help of 75 high school athletes and Hingham Little Leaguers, 18,300 flags were placed at 395 different locations around town to celebrate Hingham and the Fourth of July. Both the number of flags and the number of placements set new records, leading to a new record for gross proceeds of $40,575!

The installation and removal process would make the logistics folks at Amazon proud, and the players earned funds for their respective teams. A total of $8,115, or 20% of the gross proceeds, was placed into a donation pool to be allocated among the various teams’ booster organizations based on the percentage of installations and removals completed. The remaining funds were applied toward the parade’s annual cost of more than $55,000, as no tax dollars are used to cover parade expenses.

Once again this year, Middle Street resident Stod Rowley made sure that every home on Middle Street hosted flags, while most homes along the remainder of the parade route on Main Street joined in the effort. Other neighborhoods with high participation rates included Garrison Road, Wanders Drive, and all of Conservatory Park.

On behalf of the Fourth of July Parade Committee, thank you, Hingham!
