Carol Britton Meyer recently connected with owners of the popular Snug Irish Pub in downtown Hingham. Ellen has also owned the Hingham Greenery for 32 years. You can learn more about this amazing couple below — what they most love about running their business, their favorite vacation destinations, and what they enjoy doing most in their spare time!
Business name: The Snug Irish Pub
Your favorite part of owning and operating The Snug: working in a wonderful community that supports locally owned businesses and working in the town we live in.
How long has The Snug been in downtown Hingham? Since January 2003.
What makes your restaurant unique? For all intents and purposes, we are the local “Cheers”!
What makes it a fun place to be? You walk in and see mailmen, your next door neighbor, and local sports stars.
What makes The Snug so popular? Our food is excellent, we pour a perfect pint, and we offer live music. Our most popular menu items are the award-winning Snug steak tips with our secret marinade recipe and of course, the Perfect Pint of Guinness.
What menu items are your favorites? Fish ‘n chips, the cheeseburger club, and steak tips are some of our favorites.
What makes Hingham Square so special and why you chose this location for The Snug: It’s a true downtown, with both an historical presence and a local community feel.
What do you enjoy most doing in your spare time? Traveling and attending sporting events as well as golfing and bowling.
Do you have any pets? We’ve always had Shelties, our breed of choice. Finnbar aka Finn is a five-year-old champion line.
Favorite Hingham restaurant and meal — besides The Snug! We love the pizza at Caffe Tosca.
Favorite Hingham local spot: South Shore Country Club.
Favorite vacation destination: Recently we have been enjoying Aruba, and we also love Stowe, Vermont.
Do you have a hidden talent? Ed is a good communicator, problem solver, and back in the day was a good hockey player.
Interesting fact about yourself that others may not know: Ed is part American Indian, Nipmuc, on his father’s side.
What you are most looking forward to: The summer season.
