There was about a 26 percent voter turnout for the Sept. 1 state primary in Hingham, with 4,106 voting Democratic and 1,128 Republican – for a total of 5,234 ballots cast from among the town’s approximately 19,750 registered voters.
By comparison, 4,100 total voters cast ballots in the 2024 state primary, according to Town Clerk Carol Falvey, with slightly lower total voter registrations that year.
“There were only a few contested races on the Democratic ballot this year” and only a couple on the Republican ballot, Falvey noted; otherwise, the turnout might have been higher.
On the Democratic side, there was a race for senator in Congress between incumbent Sen. Edward Markey and Seth Moulton; representative in Congress between incumbent Stephen Lynch and Patrick Roath; and for the Councillor seat between incumbent Christopher Iannella, Jr. and Ronald Iacobucci. All three incumbents prevailed.
Governor Maura Healey ran unopposed on the Democratic ballot, as did Rep. Joan Meschino.
On the Republican ballot, Michael Minogue defeated Brian Shortsleeve in the governor race. There was a three-way race for county commissioner among incumbent Sandra Wright, Anthony O’Brien, and Korey Welch – with the final results uncertain as of Wednesday morning.
Sen. Patrick O’Connor ran unopposed on the Republican ballot, as did Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz.
