The 100th anniversary of the Torrent engine house was held in February of 1926. Inside the engine house, Company Steward William Clinton Griggs, while keeping warm by the stove said: “this is when time glides peacefully and the old stove yields a grateful warmth.” That was the last quiet moment that day. For the event, a banquet was held, speeches were made, stories were told, and photographs were taken of the men in uniform, the old wooden hand tub and the new motorized engine. The wooden building was at Magoun’s bridge on South Street near its junction with North Street which was also known as Torrent Crossing. Today the engine house is now a home on Central Street, the fire houses have modern furnaces and the South-North Street cut through is blocked off.
