This building at the corner of North St. and Bank Avenue started out as a state bank incorporated as The Hingham Bank in 1853. In 1864 an act of Congress established national banks. The Hingham Bank applied for a national charter and in 1865 became the Hingham National Bank. In later years it moved over to South Street at the corner of Lafayette. In 1916, the South Street building became the Hingham Trust Company, then the post office and is now CVS. Today this North Street location houses business offices.
