Here is Mr. Robinson preparing to fill a sack with ground corn in the Hingham Grain Mill. The outside of the Hingham Grain Mill has been photographed many times down through the years. So far only a few of the interior have been seen. In 1643 three men, Anthony Eames, Samuel Ward and Bozoan Allen were given permission by the Selectmen to operate a corn mill at the cove. It became one of the oldest mills in the country to operate continuously on the same site. Sometime during the 1940s, the business switched to selling paint and feed. In 1947 the machinery was taken out. The home of Ye Olde Mill Grille for years was in the section closest to North Street, the addition that was added in 1723. Today it is the home of the Liberty Grill. This photo, taken by Francis Cooke Macgregor is from the book “This is America.”
