This is a wonderful view of Hingham Centre in 1895 when there were dirt roads. You can see from left to right is Cushing’s Gas Station, Hingham Market, with a corner of Pasquale’s Shoe Shop peeking out between them, next is the former public scales /post office building, Henry Zahn’s Ice Cream Parlor with a small horse watering fountain to the side, Niagara Hall and the library. Cushing’s is now Eastern Bank, Pasquale’s building was moved to Station Street, and a strip of stores include Atlantic Bagel, Quality Nail Spa, Joanna’s House of Beauty and Thacher & Spring Décor. The Hingham Centre Pharmacy is in the old Public Scales building and Dependable Cleaners is in Henry Zahn’s. The next two buildings are gone today: Niagara Hall and the old library. This photo is from the archives of the Hingham Historical Society.
