The long-anticipated South Shore Country Club pool is expected to open in June 2027 following select board approval of a $7.896 million contract with Construction Dynamics Inc. of Clinton, Mass. Tuesday night to construct a new community pool and bathhouse facility.

Country Club Management Committee member George Kay said members of the committee – who met just before the select board meeting and supported awarding the contract to Construction Dynamics — “enthusiastically recommended” that the select board accept their bid. “This has been a long time coming.”

According to Kay, the project architect and project manager vetted the company and were satisfied with the results.

“I’m very excited to have this discussion,” Select Board Chair William Ramsey said. “A lot of people have been waiting a long time for this.”

Construction Dynamics was among three respondents to the bid for the project and was the low bidder. The bid is within the funding parameters authorized at the 2022 Town Meeting.

At that time, voters approved a total project cost not to exceed $8 million for the town-owned pool facility. The current plan includes a handicapped-accessible six-lane, 25-yard lap pool, a zero-depth entry pool, a bathhouse, equipment storage building, and a splash pad.

SSCC Executive Director Kevin Whalen was commended for his hard work and persistence during the long process leading to the signing of the contract.

Former Country Club Management Committee member Christine Smith – who Ramsey said “is the heart and soul behind this project” – was in the audience and shared her thoughts.

“I want to thank everyone for their continued support [for this project],” she said. “The pool will be a great community asset.”

Smith noted that select board member Julie Strehle “championed the pool” from the beginning, including while on the Community Preservation Committee that recommended partial funding for the project, which was also approved at Town Meeting 2022. “I can’t wait [for the pool to open],” she said. “I’m thrilled.”

Construction is expected to begin this May. The contractor will bill the town on a monthly basis for work performed.
