John L. Sullivan, age 61, passed away on December 14, 2025. Growing up in Somerville and Arlington, Massachusetts, he graduated from Arlington Catholic High School in 1982 where he played varsity football and basketball. He went on to attend Boston College where he graduated with a B.S. in Marketing from the School of Management in 1986. With his older brother Quinlan J. Sullivan III and his late father Quinlan Sullivan Jr., they built their family car dealerships. John was Dealer Principal of Sullivan Brothers Auto Mall, including Sullivan Brothers Toyota, Sullivan Brothers Nissan, and the Sullivan Brothers Collision Center. In 1990, he graduated from the National Automobile Dealers Association. Under his stewardship, the dealerships have earned top honors, including the Toyota President’s Award and the Nissan Award of Excellence. He loved the car business and deeply cared about the people who worked for him and considered them family, and it brought him great joy working with both of his late brothers.
An avid sports fan, he enjoyed coaching both his late younger brother Brian in basketball at Saint Agnes CYO where he won multiple championships as well as coaching his son Shane in Hingham Youth Basketball and Football for many years where he won multiple championships as well. He loved being involved and giving back to the communities he was a part of, a philanthropist, he was incredibly committed to giving back to his community, donating to countless organizations. He was an avid storyteller, quite funny and was driven by his values. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of Indian Pond Country Club. Nothing was more important to him than family and especially his three children.
He is survived by his loving girlfriend Grace Judge; and his three children, Casey Sullivan Mirheydar and her husband Hossein Mirheydar, Jack Sullivan and his fiancé Nicole Gorman and Shane Sullivan and his girlfriend Areti Bakolas. He is also survived by his former wife and mother of his children, Jennifer Poirier. Beloved Son of Mary and the late Quinlan J. Sullivan Jr of N. Falmouth. Brother to Julie McIsaac and her husband Andrew of Falmouth, and the brother of the late Brian Sullivan and Quinlan J. Sullivan III. Uncle to Andrew, Brendan, and Conor McIsaac and Caitlin, Quinlan, Holly, and Logan Sullivan.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday December 22nd from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St. ( Rt. 106), KINGSTON. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday December 23rd at 10:00 am at Resurrection Church, 1057 Main Street HINGHAM. Interment will be held at the Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree.
