Nona’s Homemade is relocating from 19 Main St. to a ‘bigger and better” space in the former Carolann’s shop a few doors down at 31-35 Main St., offering all the usual tasty ice cream treats as well as homemade pastries, a coffee bar, and gelato.
The new shop has double the space of the current one and will be designed as “a modern take on an old-fashioned ice cream shop, with a viewing window to see how the ice cream is made,” Krissy Donahue, who owns Nona’s with her husband, Tom, told the Hingham Anchor. The new shop will have a 45-50 seating capacity as compared with the current 15 seats.
The move was a family decision. “We had outgrown our current space and were trying to figure out where to relocate when someone suggested the vacant Carolann’s space,” she said. “We talked about it a lot and signed the lease in late September. We’re excited.”
Nona’s opened at its current location 25 years ago this coming March. The shop will close on Christmas Eve, with the new space expected to open in late January or early February. “We’re sad we won’t get to celebrate Nona’s anniversary at the location where we first opened, but when the time is right, we will celebrate in the new space,” Donahue said.
The permitting process with the town for the new shop has already begun. “The new location is going to be a lot of fun,” she said.
