Did you know that there are an estimated two million transgender people living in the United States, according to the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation? All are welcome to come learn more about transgender issues and identities in an important evening of understanding and discussion about gender, sexuality, and supporting our transgender youth and friends in the community.

This informative panel discussion is co-hosted by the Hingham Unity Council, the Hingham Pride Project, and the Trans/Parent Support Group of the South Shore and features speakers Tre’Andre Valentine, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition and Dr. Katie McBrine, board-certified pediatrician at HealthCare South-Scituate Pediatrics. The event is free and open to the public. You need not be a Hingham resident to attend.

Let’s Talk: Nurturing Potential: Fostering Vibrant Trans Futures
Monday, November 6, 2023
7:00 – 8:30 p.m.
Hingham High School Auditorium
17 Union St, Hingham, MA
No registration is required.

About the speakers:
Tre’Andre Carmel Valentine is an immigrant of mixed ancestry from the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. They have been advocating for trans rights for 15 years and they have over 10 years of experience supporting LGBTQ+ survivors of domestic violence and working for LGBTQ+ inclusion through an anti-oppression framework. Tre’Andre currently serves on the Boston Human Rights Commission.

Tre’Andre leads the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition (MTPC). Founded in 2001, MTPC is an advocacy, education, and community leadership organization that works to ensure the well-being, safety, and lived equity of all trans, nonbinary, and gender-expansive children, youth, adults, elders, and families in Massachusetts. MTPC is the only statewide advocacy organization focused solely on our communities – led by trans people, for trans people.

Katie McBrine, MD is a board-certified pediatrician and Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics currently practicing at HealthCare South-Scituate Pediatrics. She attended medical school at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine and completed her residency at Rush University Medical Center. She is the School Physician for the Scituate School district and is currently working on improving their puberty/sex education curriculum. In her free time, she volunteers for various organizations like the Hingham Pride Project and the Hingham Public Library.

After both speakers share their knowledge and experience, there will be time for Q&A with the community.

“There is a lot of curiosity in our community around this topic, including the use of gender pronouns,” said Katie Sutton, chair of the Hingham Unity Council. “I had the opportunity to see Tre’Andre Valentine speak at the Hingham Senior Center a few months ago and he was very engaging. Coupled with Dr. McBrine’s significant expertise, this panel is definitely going to be time well spent.”
