Jeanne M. Haviland (Johnson)

Jeanne M. Haviland (Johnson), affectionately known as “JJ” passed away August 9, 2025 at age 93 in Fairhaven, MA surrounded by her family.  JJ was a longtime resident of Hingham, MA and was born and raised in Braintree, MA.

JJ was the daughter of the late Margaretta (Hitchcock) Johnson and Ralph W. Johnson and sister of the late Ralph Johnson.

Beloved wife of Robert W. Haviland.  Bob and Jeanne were married in 1956 and celebrated 50 years of marriage together.  Robert preceded her in death in 2007.

JJ saw many things in her lifetime and lived a long and happy life.  She graduated from Braintree High School in 1950 and attended The Bridgewater Teachers College where she graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in 1954.  Bob and Jeanne owned and operated a floral business where she enjoyed designing and creating floral arrangements.  JJ never lost her love for arranging and appreciating flowers.  She and Bob arranged all the flowers for each of their daughter’s weddings and in her later years, she also took time to make her granddaughter’s wedding bouquet.  JJ worked as an Office Manager/Bookkeeper for many years retiring from South Shore Daycare.  In their retirement years, Bob and Jeanne enjoyed traveling and wine tasting.  They were very involved in the USCG Dwayne Association and had many friends they enjoyed spending time with.

JJ was the treasurer for Thaxter Park Residence Association where she resided for several years as well as other organizations including The Braintree High School Class of 1950 Reunion and the USCG Dwayne Association.  She was also involved with writing classes through the Hingham Senior Center and volunteered at Hingham Town Hall.  She was a talented knitter, making sweaters and other items for family and friends.  She was the beloved matriarch of her family and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She also enjoyed visiting her daughter Meg in Texas for many years while she lived there.  A favorite story she liked to tell of her trips to Texas was a private tour of Johnson Space Center.  She also enjoyed visiting Sweden to meet relatives and learn more about her family roots.

In addition to her parents, brother and husband, Jeanne was predeceased by her sister in laws Jacqueline (Hathaway) Johnson and Marie (Haviland) Leavens as well as a brother in law Robert Leavens.  She also was preceded in death by many close friends.
JJ is survived by her three daughters, Meg (Margaret) Haviland of Raynham, MA, Suzanne Hoey and her husband Steve of Hyde Park, VT and Wendy Andrade and her husband Carlos of New Bedford, MA.  Her grandchildren Carey Yeaton and husband Brian of Morrisville, VT, Robert Hoey and wife Lauren of Whitman, MA, Nathan Andrade and fiancée Sydney Palmer of New Bedford, MA, Nicholas Andrade and partner Kendall Lewis of Rutledge, FL and Christina Andrade of New Bedford, MA will miss her greatly.  She was also adored by her great grandchildren Kaylee and Declan Hoey of Whitman MA and Hazel and Adeline Yeaton of Morrisville, VT.  She is also survived by her nieces and nephews and their children.  JJ loved dogs and had many of her own as well as grand-dogs that she enjoyed spending time with.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Friday, August 15, 2025 at 10am at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St, Hingham, MA.  Visiting hours are Thursday August 14, 2025 from 4-7pm at Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel.  Private Burial to be held at a later date.
