The select board proclaimed Wednesday, January 7, “Adelia the Wonder Girl Day” in the Town of Hingham at their meeting Tuesday night on the occasion of her birthday. Members of her family were in the audience to accept the signed proclamation.

The proclamation honors the legacy of this beloved former South School student and celebrates the spirit of kindness and hope she instilled in the South School and overall community.

Adelia, fondly known as “Adelia the Wonder Girl,” passed away on May 30, 2024 after a courageous 15-month battle with a rare form of brain cancer.

The proclamation notes that Adelia’s “sparkling eyes and infectious personality touched the hearts of everyone she encountered” and that she “consistently embraced life with an unparalleled spirit of adventure and a profound love for her family — teaching us all to cherish each moment, love more deeply, and find beauty in every aspect of life. . . . While her passing in 2024 has deeply saddened our community, Adelia’s bright light continues to shine as a reminder of the enduring power of courage and love.”

The select board urges all citizens “to observe this day by emulating the spirit and attitude of Adelia Szklut. We honor her memory, celebrate her life, and extend our heartfelt condolences to her family.”
