Atlantic Symphony Orchestra celebrates Irish music this Sunday, August 24th, at a community concert at Glastonbury Abbey in Hingham. The concert features one of Boston’s best Irish bands – Boxty – plus ASO’s own audience-favorite flutist Brendan Ryan, and pianist Yujin Han.
This annual concert, held on the gorgeous grounds of the Abbey, is a wonderful way to experience music with friends, family and neighbors. ASO Executive Director Tammy Lynch said, “We invite everyone to bring a blanket or chairs, have a picnic, play some cornhole and enjoy a delicious ice cream from Nona’s Homemade Ice Cream Truck.” This year, attendees can also learn about the South Shore Irish Heritage Trail at a special display.
Featured Irish music band Boxty, led by Dublin-born Cormac Marnell, is well known for playing at some of New England’s most iconic events. The band has played all over New England, including at Gillette Stadium for numerous New England Revolution games and at Fenway Park for the Hurling Classic. They are known for energetic performances that engage the audience in a fun experience.

ASO’s Brendan Ryan will join the band on several numbers, as well as perform a special set with pianist Yujin Han, recently named an emerging artist at Vermont Solo Piano Jazz Fest.
“Every year for this concert we temporarily put away our symphonic sound and spotlight our individual musicians side-by-side with musicians known for performing other genres,” Lynch said. “It’s a great way to show even more of what our musicians can do. And it’s a great introduction to other South Shore performers.” Maestro Jin Kim will host the event, welcoming the audience and introducing the performers and music.
This event is followed by eight upcoming concerts in ASO’s Symphonic 2025-2026 season, including six at Thayer’s Center for the Arts, featuring Beethoven, Mozart, Mendelssohn, John Williams and others, plus special holiday events.
