Hingham Historical Society offers a robust calendar of fall programs and events Commemorating the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.

August 27, 2025 by The Hingham Historical Society

Whether you like exploring historic homes, engaging with historians or spending time with neighbors and friends, the Society’s fall schedule has something for everyone.

At the heart of these events is the ongoing commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution and the opportunity to revisit Hingham’s rich history. “Few towns can boast as many extant Revolutionary houses as Hingham,” says Paula Bagger, a local historian. 140 houses still standing today, “where both patriots and some loyalists lived during the Revolution.” Over 800 individuals associated with Hingham served in the American Revolution, and each event offers new insights into soldiers’ and civilians’ experiences. James Conroy, acclaimed local author, is working on a new book about Hingham in the American Revolution. “I’ve lived in Hingham for 38 years, and I didn’t know 3⁄4 of what we’ve dug up!”

“Commemorating our past brings the community together and strengthens our shared democratic values,” says Deirdre Anderson, Executive Director of the Hingham Historical Society. “The identity and historic significance of Hingham in Massachusetts means so much to us, and we are excited to share that with the world.”

Now on view at the Hingham Heritage Museum.
As the Nation marks 250 years of independence, Witness: Hingham in the Age of Revolution explores how one New England town experienced the ideas, contradictions, and upheavals of the American Revolution. Through the lives of Hingham’s residents– white and Black, free and enslaved– this immersive new exhibit traces the ups & downs forging of a nation. Featuring more than 50 original objects from the Society’s collections, Witness invites visitors to examine the contradictions and complexities of liberty and resistance as experienced in one New England town. Witness: Hingham in the Age of Revolution was made possible by a grant from the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism.
