The 60th Reunion for the 1960 class of Hingham High School was cancelled due to the Covid pandemic. In 2024, the local classmates, averaging 20 members, began a tradition of once monthly luncheons at the South Shore Country Club’s IronWood Restaurant, where they enjoy great memories, food, and laughter on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Their next get-together is Tuesday, October 21st.
Representing the deep roots that the 1960 class has for Hingham, each classmate receives a hand carved wooden key chain made from trimmings and blowdowns from the well known Buttonwood tree in Hingham Center by Master Carver Bill Sarni. Bill, a 1960 HHS graduate, also carved a table decoy for the table centerpiece. While carving the decoy, a Cardinal landed on his outdoor workbench. He remembered the saying ” If a Cardinal lands near you, it is a heavenly visit from a loved one,” and he carved a Cardinal on the decoy to represent and remember all the 1960 classmates who have passed on and join them in spirit.
Friends or family of any 1960 HHS grad who they believe would enjoy joining these reunions are urged to contact Susie at S.Kiley1943@gmail.com or Bill at WDSarni@outlook.com.
