On Friday, May 19, more than 300 Hingham High seniors participated in the annual Senior Service Day, helping to clean up large areas of the Town in need of a little love.
The Harbor Development Committee and Bathing Beach Trustees were delighted to have over 10 volunteers to clean up the harbor front, including Jack Kelleher, Julia O’Dwyer, Finn Osterberg, Adam Overton-Heggie, Syd Palese, Josie Pappone, James Rozantis, Kat Van Buskirk,Ryan Gates, and Sarah O’Reilly.
The best part of this effort was the camaraderie that developed among the participants, many of whom did not know each other well. During the day, everyone shared where they were going to college, their interests, and their privilege of having grown up in a town like Hingham where the spirit of volunteerism runs deep, starting with traditions like the high school’s Senior Service Day.
With the DPW’s help, the harbor front hasn’t looked this clean after a long winter in many years. We’re looking forward to welcoming the Town to the harbor front this summer, with a season-end 2nd annual harbor celebration day planned for September 9.
