Once again, I am proud to be partnering with Director of Veteran Services, Shannon Burke, in a “Flower Power” fundraising campaign to purchase food related gift cards for Hingham Veterans with food insecurity.
Over the last two years the Flower Power campaign was able to raise over $3,000 to support Hingham veterans with food insecurity. This meant that Hingham veterans and their families. experiencing food insecurity, were able to get immediate assistance to put food on the table. Our grassroots efforts also allowed the Director of Veteran Services to provide gift cards to qualifying Veterans during the week of Thanksgiving.
According to the Feeding America website, 1 in 9 working-age veterans nationwide live in food insecure households, while 24 percent of active-duty service members experienced food insecurity in 2023. Overall, 1.2 million low-income veterans use SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as food).
To date the 2025 Flower Power Campaign has raised to over $1,200 and we are NOT done yet! This year I am reaching out to Hingham Restaurant owners, or food related establishments, to ask you to become part of the campaign by donating a gift card from your wonderful establishment. When you become a sponsor, your name will be featured as a proud sponsor in a follow up piece in the Hingham Anchor, highlighted on Flower Power Hingham Socials, and your name will appear on a Thank You banner that will hang in Hingham Town Hall during the annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony.
