Glastonbury Abbey welcomes the public to a timely evening lecture exploring how ancient spiritual wisdom can help people remain grounded in today’s rapidly evolving digital world.
On Tuesday, February 3 at 7:30 p.m., Dr. Sean O’Callaghan, Associate Professor of Religious and Theological Studies at Salve Regina University, will present “The Practice of Stability in the Age of AI” in the Morcone Center at Glastonbury Abbey. The event is free and open to the public; donations are welcome. A virtual attendance option is also available.
Drawing on the 6th-century Rule of St. Benedict alongside contemporary research on artificial intelligence, Dr. O’Callaghan will explore practical, faith-rooted practices that promote stability, balance, and attentiveness in everyday life as technology increasingly shapes modern experience.
Dr. O’Callaghan is co-author of AI Shepherds and Electric Sheep: Leading and Teaching in the Age of Artificial Intelligence. Originally from Ireland, he previously taught in the United Kingdom before joining Salve Regina University. His work focuses on world religions, emerging spiritual movements, and the ethical and cultural implications of new technologies.
The talk is presented by the Oblates of Glastonbury Abbey, who share Benedictine values of balance, reflection, and hospitality with the wider community.
