Earth Month’s Recycle and Reuse Initiatives – GUILD Consignment Center Celebrates 65 Years in Hingham!

The GUILD Consignment Center celebrates 65 years, located in the basement of the Hingham Congregational Church.

When celebrating Earth Month, the concept of recycle and reuse can be heard far and wide.  Buying gently used items eliminates the need to manufacture, transport, package, inventory, and advertise a similar product –  offering an alternative to habitual reliance on globally limited raw materials and energy sources.

There’s no better way to do this than to repurpose the clothes and accessories, dishes, and small household goods you no longer use or have outgrown –  and that’s where the GUILD Consignment Center of Hingham comes in.

The GUILD Consignment Center was established in 1956 by the Women’s Guild of the Hingham Congregational Church, as an initiative to provide quality, affordable clothing and household goods to families in Hingham and the surrounding communities.  The GUILD was built on a philosophy of shared resources, Biblical stewardship, and fiscal responsibility, perpetuating practices of conservation and social conscience.

The celebratory 65th year of business was postponed when the pandemic surged in 2021, but the Anniversary Celebration will begin on Sunday, April 30 (through May 6) – including all sorts of special events designed to show appreciation for consignors, customers, and the Hingham community.  A highlight will be “Bargain for Books” on Thursday, May 4, when all of the business proceeds of the day will be donated to the Hingham Public Library as part of the Hingham Congregational Church’s 175th Jubilee library donation.

The GUILD Consignment Center has been housed in the basement of the Hingham Congregational Church for all 65 years, and is currently the only family consignment shop in the town of Hingham.  The GUILD has been the recipient of several Reader’s Choice Awards, and is staffed entirely by volunteers.  Revenues generated by the sale of consigned and donated merchandise are used to meet ongoing and intermittent community needs, and provide significant funding to a wide variety of area nonprofits that are chosen by the volunteer staff.

Visit soon in the basement of Hingham Congregational Church at 378 Main St. during regular business hours each Tuesday (10am-7pm), Wednesday (10am-1pm), Thursday (10am-6pm) and Saturday (10am-1pm), follow on Facebook or Instagram, or view more details at www.guildconsignment.com.
