Atlantic Symphony Orchestra Invites Families to its Annual Discovery Concert featuring Grieg’s Beloved Peer Gynt Music Plus South Shore Conservatory’s Felix Fung.

The Atlantic Symphony Orchestra (ASO) invites audiences of most ages to a special family-friendly performance, The Discovery Concert, on Saturday, February 28 at 4:00 PM at the Thayer’s Center for the Arts (745 Washington Street, Braintree). The concert, originally scheduled for January 24, has been rescheduled and will run approximately 60–70 minutes.

Led by Music Director Jin Kim, ASO’s musicians will perform Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 by Edvard Grieg, featuring some of the most recognizable and beautiful melodies in classical music. Between each movement, local actors will offer short, narrated excerpts from the original play by Henrik Ibsen, which inspired Grieg’s music.

Felix Fung

As part of ASO’s growing collaboration with South Shore Conservatory (SSC), the concert will feature a special guest appearance by pianist Felix Fung, SSC’s HuiMin Wang Youth Concerto Competition winner, playing the first movement from Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1.

Designed as an engaging introduction to orchestral music, The Discovery Concert will include fun, interactive discussion from Maestro Kim about the instruments of the orchestra and how composers use sound to tell stories. Different instruments and musical styles represent the many lands Peer travels through, helping listeners “hear” the story unfold.

This 60 to 70-minute concert is designed for most ages and is especially well-suited for families, students, and first-time concertgoers. While welcoming to a wide range of listeners, the program is not designed for children under the age of eight.

Audiences are invited to discover, share, and connect through music as a bridge across generations. With beloved melodies, storytelling through narration, and interactive moments with the conductor and musicians, ASO’s Discovery Concert offers an accessible and memorable way to experience the orchestra together.
