Artisans in the Square, 63 South Street, is welcoming its 13th member, Edwin Hinspeter, beginning April 1st. We are excited to have him join us and there will be reception in June when he will be the Artisan of the Month. Edwin Hinspeter grew up in rural Michigan, where he spent countless hours in his father’s tool shed building and experimenting with whatever materials he could find. Those early experiences sparked a lifelong interest in making things by hand.
Years later, while attending cabinet and furniture making school at the North Bennett Street School in Boston, Edwin discovered his passion for leather while upholstering a seat. The material immediately captivated him—its durability, character, and ability to age beautifully.
Now based in Weymouth, Massachusetts, Edwin has spent the past 15 years crafting leather goods including bags, belts, and accessories, while continuing to build furniture and pursue woodworking projects. His work reflects a deep appreciation for traditional craftsmanship, honest materials, and functional design.
